![]() Foreword by Graham Joyce
Deluxe Edition Frontispiece by Dominic Harman About the Artist
Dominic Harman is a British artist whose work has appeared around the world. His first professional sale was to the British SF magazine Interzone (July 1997), when he was 23. Since then he has sold over 280 illustrations and over 75 book jackets/magazine/CD covers. Having always been interested in art and also Fantasy, SF and Horror since he was young he decided to carry on and develop his skills and have a go at making a living out of being a genre Illustrator....so far so good! Dominic's work has been nominated six years running for the BSFA Best Artwork Awards in Great Britain among them were ("Secrets" in 1998 "Jedella Ghost", runner up in 1999, "The Sky-Green-Blues" in 2000) and in April 2001 his nomination, a cover for Interzone 157 (June 2000), illustrating the story "Hideaway" by Alastair Reynolds, won the award. Four pieces of his artwork were nominated in the US in 1999 for the Tangent Online Award (these all appeared in issues of Interzone (March 1998, July 1998, September 1998 and November 1998). He has won a number of other awards including The Paper Tiger Award 2000 and The Tangent Online Award in 2000, both for the front cover of Absolute Magnitude Magazine (Winter 1999). Dominic also received a Rosette [judge's choice] for Best in show for a Weird Tales magazine cover at the Philadelphia World SF & Fantasy Convention 2001. Dominic's work has appeared on the magazine/book covers/interiors/CD covers of: Harper Collins Books, Time Warner Books, Baen Books (US), Analog (US), Asimov's (US), Interzone (UK), Absolute Magnitude (US), Weird Tales (US), Infinity Plus Books (UK), SF Age (US), Sarob Press (UK), DNA Books (US), Tale Bones (US), Other Worlds Library (US), Dell Horoscope (US), Altair (Australia), Dreams of Decadence (US), Aboriginal Science Fiction (US), SFWA Bulletin (US), Fantastic Stories (US), Ikarye (Czechoslovakia), John Sinclair (Germany), Tenebres (France), Derision (US Band), Disarm Goliath (British Band). In his spare time, snatched between working shifts, he enjoys watching old sci-fi and horror B-movies, building up a visual reference library with photography and anything that catches his eye, and actively seeking out inspiration and constantly looking. And also sleeping as he doesn't get much when on a commission! Dominic is currently working on covers for Harper Collins [Voyager] Books, Time Warner Books several magazine covers including Absolute Magnitude, Asimov's SF, and Weird Tales. His current projects include working on cover designs for record companies and also a Graphic Novel collaboration with acclaimed SF Author, Eric Brown.
The ArtworkA small section of Dominic's illustration is presented to the left. Additionally, we hope to present the full final illustration and roughs at a later date so look out for news of this online or via the Telos Mailing List.
